What is the minimum order for watermelons?
One full 40 ft reefer container. Because the fruit is heavy, the container fills on weight well before it fills on space, so the practical order size is set by tonnage rather than by carton count.
Bins or cartons?
Bins where the receiving market handles bulk and wants the lowest cost per tonne; cartons where fruit goes on to a retail shelf or needs to be moved by hand. It is a handling decision at your end, not a quality one.
How is watermelon graded?
By weight band, with uniformity inside the bin or carton, plus external quality and ground colour. State the weight band your market sells in rather than asking for large fruit.
Why does freight matter so much on this line?
Because the fruit is mostly water and the container hits its weight limit early, freight is the largest single cost in a watermelon programme. That is why the Incoterm and the lane matter more here than on almost any other crop.
