Fruit profile
Kent is a mid to large oval fruit with a rounded base. The skin is green to greenish-yellow with a red to orange blush over the shoulder that deepens as the fruit matures. The flesh is deep yellow to orange, juicy, and low in fibre, which makes it a favourite for eating fresh and for retail programs where eating quality drives repeat sales. Average fruit weight sits between 350 and 550 grams for the counts we ship most.
Sizes and counts
We size Kent by count per 4 kilogram carton. A count 8 delivers large fruit near 500 grams, count 10 lands around 400 grams, and count 12 gives a 330 to 350 gram fruit that suits multi-buy retail packs. Gulf retail chains commonly request counts 9 to 11, while wholesale markets and food service take the larger 7 to 8 counts. Telling us the count band up front lets us hold the right fruit from the grading line rather than substituting later.
Carton and pallet format
The working format is a single-layer 4 kilogram telescopic carton with molded trays and foam sleeves. Cartons are vented for cold-chain airflow. A standard pallet builds to 160 cartons across 8 layers, and a 40-foot high-cube reefer holds 20 pallets, so a full load runs near 3,200 cartons. We can also pack 2.5 and 5 kilogram formats where a buyer prefers them, with the pallet count adjusted to match.
Maturity and ripening
Kent is harvested mature-green to first colour for export and shipped under a controlled cold chain. On arrival, the fruit ripens evenly over several days at ambient temperature, or faster in a ripening room held around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. Because the flesh softens smoothly, Kent handles the sea route to the Gulf and to European ports well when the cold chain is respected from packhouse to discharge. Ports and terms
We load from Alexandria, Damietta and Sokhna, and quote FOB or CFR under Incoterms 2020 so you can compare offers cleanly. Peak Kent availability holds through August into early September.
