Egyptian Cantaloupes — export quality by Nile Prime

Egyptian Cantaloupes

Egyptian Galia-type cantaloupes Mar–Jul — early-season, high-brix melons in 4–10 kg export cartons.

Category:

Spring melon programmes in Europe and the Gulf increasingly start in Egypt, and for good reason. Egyptian cantaloupes of the Galia type ripen weeks ahead of Southern European production, with high Brix, fragrant flesh and the netting and shelf life that supermarkets demand. Nile Prime supplies field-selected melons from GLOBALG.A.P farms in the Delta and reclaimed desert projects.

Why Egyptian Cantaloupes?

Early spring warmth and intense sunlight let Egyptian growers harvest sweet, fully netted melons while competing origins are still weeks from picking. Low production costs translate into workable margins for importers, and short sailings to the EU, Gulf and Asia mean fruit arrives with more remaining shelf life.

Guides for Melon Buyers

FAQ

What is the minimum order for cantaloupes?

One full 40 ft reefer container. Samples are difficult to send on a melon, so first orders are usually agreed on a written specification plus photographs of the pack.

How is a melon specified?

By count per carton rather than by weight per fruit, plus a Brix floor and the netting and ground-colour standard your market expects. Count per carton is the figure that decides what the shelf looks like.

Why does the early window matter commercially?

Because Egyptian fruit arrives before Southern European production starts, which is the period when melon prices are highest and competition thinnest. A programme that starts late in the window loses most of that advantage.

Is Brix guaranteed?

A Brix floor is agreed in the specification and fruit is tested at packing against it. We do not promise a single figure for a season, because sugar moves with the weather and the point in the window.

Can cartons carry our brand?

Yes, with labelling built to your destination market’s rules and carton format matched to your handling.
